Puro Porma

Politics in the Philippines is so frustrating! You see politicians shifting allegiances not because of issues but because of personalities (and money). One can take a step back and analyze what these current crop of politicians are fighting for and you will be surprised to see nothing concrete. They are really good at making and delivering speeches, in duping the masses to believe that they will help them, in getting showbiz personalities to bring in the crowd when they campaign (because people will not flock in the thousands just to listen to them speak!) and for pretending to be selfless, when in fact their primary objective is to recoup their investment in the campaign.

Political parties have started doing their campaign rallies. One thing that you should consider -- see who talks issues and who talks solutions. Do NOT believe in their empty promises. Do NOT vote for them because they are popular. We all know what happened to the country when the most popular was voted into office.

Also, look at the line-up of these political parties. Most of them belong to the elite. One thing about most, if not all of them, they are running for office to PRESERVE their assets -- no matter who gets railroaded (the masses, most likely).

Talk issues - something that most of these candidates are shying away from. Yes, talk about HEALTHCARE, EDUCATION, ECONOMY, PEACE and ORDER and chances are, you will get a comment or two on how they will solve these problems (no matter how ridiculous their solutions are).

Voters, please THINK before you vote. Don't be swayed because one is popular or because one has parents who are great (does not mean he is or will be) or because one has a rags-to-riches story or because one is showbiz personality. Be smart! Join their rallies if you want to see your favorite showbiz personalities -- just don't vote for them.

Look for one who has done good for the country. One who is part of the solution and not the problem (there are those who just bicker but poses no solutions or does nothing to help the majority). One who makes a difference!

This generation's youth has the most power in determining the future of the country. Remember, it is YOU who will be affected the most. Be SMART.
