Here we go

Today marks the 40th-day of President Corazon Aquino's death. Today also marks the day that Sen. Noynoy Aquino officially declared that candidacy for the highest post in the land. People are thinking that this is a great move - that he is the only one who can bring change to the nation. Frankly, I do not *yet* believe that this is true.

Sen. Noynoy Aquino has been a senator for quite awhile and I am still looking for his accomplishments. What has he done to make this a better country? This is one opportunity that his mom did not have before running against Pres. Marcos. If he indeed was for change, then he could have done something as senator, right? Why did he wait for this opportunity to do something? This is what baffles me.

However, I am still giving him a chance to get my vote. How?

1. Bolt from any political party and run as independent. This makes him free from all the trapos (traditional politicians). This is one thing that his mom failed to do -- she was surrounded by a lot of trapos, which prevented her from doing a lot of good for the country. If Sen. Kiko Pangilinan can do it, why can't he, if he truly believes that the people wants him to be the president?

2. Be TRANSPARENT. Reveal all campaign contributions. This will set an example and if no other candidate can do it, then we will know that they are not worthy of our votes. This is important for everyone to know who has stakes at Noynoy's administration. Also, remember how Rep. Mikey Arroyo failed to reveal all campaign contributions? :D

3. Reveal your cabinet. Whilst it may be premature but I think revealing all those who will lead the country with him is a big thing. Right now, we can elect the greatest person on earth as president but if s/he will have stupid people around him/her, then it will be useless. Political will is one thing but execution is another. [I remember, today's word is Bozone]

4. Remember Cory's Presidency. People loved Pres. Cory Aquino. I campaigned for her. I believed in her. However, half-way through her term, change was not that evident. True, we rid ourselves of a tyrant but the crocodiles (trapos) still ruled. Pres. Cory had the political will to stop corruption - but did her cabinet share the same sentiments? Who executed her wishes? Why do you think that there were coup d'etas? Maybe it was because the military did not see drastic changes that they were hoping for.

I am still NOT closing the door on Sen. Noynoy. However, right now, I still cannot find the right reason to vote for him.

if he'll run independent, he'll not win! that is for sure.
