JavaOne 2009 is the last event that Sun Microsystems, Inc., will hold before Oracle takes over this summer (in the US). This is one event that one must not miss - after all, it is the largest developer event in the planet!
What to expect? Well, Jonathan Schwartz already blogged about Project Vector, aka Java App Store, already.
I cannot wait to find out more about this. Will it cater to Desktop and Mobile apps only? How about enterprise apps? What if they offer enterprise apps bundled with their cloud services? Now that will be very interesting.
Another thing to wait for is JavaFX. Two years in the making and it is only now that it is ripe for deployment. JavaFX Mobile is one technology that I am also waiting for - specially which handsets will support it. I just hope that the conference gadget is a HSPA-enabled mobile phone, from a known manufacturer, that supports JavaFX Mobile! :) Sony Ericsson is a conference sponsor - looking forward to a possible conference gadget from them but please, no Windows Mobile phones!!!!!
One last thing that I want to see is the cloud computing initiatives in Sun. I know of Kenai and Zembly already but there are projects that are in the pipeline for release (I hope). :)
This year is the first time Microsoft will be delivering a keynote. Surprisingly, Oracle used to be in the general sessions but they're not there. I am still thinking if I will go see the MSFT keynote or just stay in bed and wait for the technical sessions to start around 10. :)
Last appearance of JavaOne under the helm of Sun. Wonder what next year will bring... your thoughts?
