SMS tax

There is another attempt in the Senate to add tax on SMS. The plan is to use part of the money collected for education. Whilst the intention is great, I don't think that the means is acceptable.

First of all, SMS is the primary means of communication of the masses because of its affordability. When you tax the telcos for every SMS that passes through their network, this added cost will be passed on to the consumers - making SMS more expensive. Not a good idea!

Why can't senators and congressmen go against those who sell tobacco and alcohol? These are non-essentials anyway. Add more tax to tobacco and make it expensive and more Filipinos will stop smoking! :)

So our congressmen and senators, why target SMS instead of other non-essentials?
